Top Family-Friendly Christmas Markets & Holiday Events in Frankfurt
When my husband and I first met, he would often mention the Christmas markets in Germany (die Weihnachtsmärkte) and how popular they were. From his stories, they sounded magical and since visiting my first Christmas market back in 2018 when I first moved abroad to Germany, I immediately knew this was my new favorite thing about life abroad.
Now with children, my husband and I still love to explore the famous Christmas markets throughout Germany. However, I often find it challenging to explore some of the markets in the city with kids – especially while trying to find a space amongst the crowd where my child can run around in!

After some research, visiting a few Christmas markets with my family, and gathering some recommendations from other parents, I have compiled a wishlist of family-friendly Christmas markets and holiday activities to do with children in Frankfurt:

🎄 Weihnachtsmarkt im Gallus & Europaviertel (02.12.2023 – 03.12.2023) – see info on flyer below
🎄 English Story Time, Christmas Edition | Stadtteilbibliothek Gallus (06.12.2023)
🎄 Sachsenhäuser Weihnachtsmarkt am Goetheturm (20.11.2023 – 21.12.2023)
🎄 Indoor Christmas Market for Children at Ratskeller | Frankfurter Römer (09.12.2023 – 21.12.2023)
🎄 Adventsmarkt | Der Evangelischen Kirchengemeinde | Frankfurt-Bornheim (02.12.2023)
🎄 Kindersternschnuppenmarkt | Luisenplatz Wiesbaden (28.11.2023 – 14.01.2024)
🎄 PalmenGarten Winterlichter (09.12.2023 – 14.01.2024)

It is also worth checking your local church, organizations or family centers which often host their own Christmas markets. While these may not be as big and often do not have rides, they usually have a good variety of fun activities for kids.It is also worth checking out markets in the towns outside of Frankfurt such as Taunus area (Oberusal, Silligenstadt, Hanau, Bad Soden, Bad Homburg, etc.) as these tend to be less crowded in comparison to Frankfurt and also offer kid-friendly activities.
In general, I find it helpful to explore Christmas markets in Germany with children during the day vs. at night in order to avoid the large crowds. So gather some fellow parent-friends and grab a Glühwein and enjoy some fun Christmas activities in Frankfurt with kids!
