Cooling Down in the Summer Time with Kids | Quick Guide to Water Parks in Frankfurt
When I find myself complaining about Germany’s record-high heat this year, I like to look back at photos of my family and I in the middle of winter. Wrapped up in countless layers to simply go across the street to the supermarket or for a walk.

After months of grey and cloudy skies, enjoying the sunny (and very hot) summer days in Frankfurt are a must. Therefore, rather than making a fuss about how hot it is, my family and I have tried to spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. While it is easy to complain about the heat waves, my family and I have managed to stay cool by visiting some fun children’s water parks right in the city.
Below is a list of the water parks for kids in Frankfurt that I have visited so far:
- Waldspielpark Scheerwald: I recently posted more about my time at Waldspielpark Scheerwald over in The Eltern Hub Instagram. It was the perfect spot for a hot afternoon! Lots of shade, space to set up a picnic blanket, and public bathrooms which made it easy to spend a few hours here. There is a kiosk where you can get small snacks like pretzels, ice cream and water. If you plan on going during lunchtime, make sure to pack a proper picnic lunch as the kiosk only offers small snacks. Easy to reach via public transit (bus 48 from Lokalbahnhof). As this is a public park, there is not fee to enter.
- Brentanobad: This is one of the largest pools in Frankfurt (I even heard in Germany?). You can imagine on a hot summer day, this place is packed so best to arrive early. There are a good amount of areas with shade available to set up a blanket. The kid’s area is a bit removed from where the adult’s section is and includes a slide and sprinklers. Easy to reach via public transit (bus M34, Ubahn 6 & 7, or Sbahn to Rödelheim). Entrance is 5 euros per adult and children under 14 years old are free.
- Freibad Hausen: Just a 5 minute walk from Brentanobad, Freibad Hausen has two pools available. One large one and one kid’s pool. The kid’s pool includes a slide and two small fountains which is fun for kids to play with. There are picnic areas surrounding the pools, mostly without much shade. On a hot summer day, I recommend bringing something to create shade or arriving early in order to grab one of the limited spots in the shady areas a bit further away from the pools. Easy to reach via public transit (bus M34, Ubahn 6 & 7, or Sbahn to Rödelheim). Entrance is 5 euros per adult and children under 14 years old are free.
Other waterparks recommended to me that I have on my list to visit:
- Wasserspielplatz Schwanheim
- Niddapark Wasserspielplatz
- Wasserspielplatz im Günthersburgpark
- Spielplatz am Grüneburgpark
Save and share this blog post along with my Google Maps list with someone you know who enjoys fun outdoor water activities with their family in Frankfurt in the summer. So we can all look back at photos of the sweet memories shared under the sun when temperatures in Germany begin to drop in the dreary cold winter months.
